In the Norman bocage, in the heart of Domfrontais, lies an exceptional house whose history is as rich and singular as its brandies. Comte Louis de Lauriston is not just a Calvados brand: it is the fruit of a Norman legend, a unique terroir, and expertise preserved for over sixty years.
An extraordinary story
It all began on a winter night in 1962. In the Domfront region, a land of small family farms separated by sunken lanes and impenetrable hedges, the clandestine distillation of Calvados was in full swing. Administration agents burst in. Tension quickly rose: neighbors, tractors, and cars surrounded the inspectors. To avoid escalation, Count Louis de Lauriston, then secretary-general of the Federation of Agricultural Producers, was called.

After long negotiations, an agreement was reached: the fine was lifted on condition that a legal cellar be created to collect, age, and market the Calvados from the farmers of Domfrontais. This is how the Chais du Verger Normand were born in 1962. Since then, brandies distilled according to the traditional methods of local farmers have been gathered there and marketed under the prestigious name of Comte Louis de Lauriston.
In 1992, the cellar partnered with the Christian Drouin house. Comte Louis de Lauriston then sold his brand with only one condition: the quality must remain irreproachable. Today, under the presidency of Guillaume Drouin, this requirement continues to guide every blend and every bottling.
Calvados Domfrontais: a unique signature

What immediately distinguishes Comte Louis de Lauriston Calvados is the Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée Calvados Domfrontais. Here, apples and pears are distilled together. The specifications require a minimum of 30% perry pears, distillation in a column still (single pass), and aging for at least three years in oak barrels.
The result? Brandies of rare elegance, floral, fruity, and mineral, carried by the freshness of the pear and the complexity of Domfrontais' schist and granite soils. Less harsh and more ethereal than some Calvados from Pays d'Auge, they captivate with their finesse and aromatic purity.
The Domfront cellars now house an exceptional collection of vintages, a precious legacy of decades of farm distillation, regularly rewarded (more than 200 medals and distinctions).
