Immortelle of Provence: Nature's Anti-Aging Secret

L'Immortelle de Provence : le secret anti-âge de la nature - D.Crouzet

An exceptional flower born in Provence

Immortelle (Helichrysum italicum) is a wild flower that grows on the sunny garrigues of Provence and Corsica. Its name says it all: it never fades. Harvested by hand in summer, it gives off an enchanting scent of honey and curry that makes it immediately recognizable.

It takes one ton of flowers to produce just 2 kg of essential oil — which explains its rarity and preciousness in natural cosmetics.

For the curious 🌿

Italian immortelle (Helichrysum italicum) is a perennial plant 25 to 50 cm tall, woody at the base, which blooms golden yellow from May to August. Its name comes from the Greek helios (sun) and chrysos (gold) — a perfect allusion to its small golden flowers that never fade, even when dried.

It grows on limestone and granite rocks around the Mediterranean: Corsica, Sardinia, Provence, the Balkan coasts. Sun-loving and drought-resistant, it thrives where few plants survive.

Its essential oil, obtained by distilling the flowering tops, contains unique active compounds such as italidione and neryl acetate, with recognized antioxidant and soothing properties in aromatherapy. It is also nicknamed "boxer's oil" for its action on bruises and inflammations.

Remarkably, the blue tit uses immortelle to line its nest and protect its young from parasites. Nature knows its virtues well!

Nature has provided everything. We have bottled it.
