What is propolis?
Propolis is a resinous substance made by bees from plant resins and wax. Its name comes from the Greek pro (in front of) and polis (city) – because bees use it to protect the entrance of their hive. A true natural shield, it cleanses, protects, and strengthens the colony against infections.
It takes an entire colony to produce only 100 to 300 g of propolis per year – a precious and rare resource.
An exceptional composition
Propolis is one of the most complex natural ingredients known: over 300 different compounds have been identified, including powerful flavonoids, organic acids, trace elements, and vitamins. This richness makes it a prime ingredient in natural cosmetics.

For the curious 🐝
Used since antiquity, propolis was already used as an embalming product in ancient Egypt and was part of Roman soldiers' medicine kits. In the Middle Ages, it was used to disinfect wounds.
Bees use it as mortar to seal cracks in the hive, as an antiseptic varnish inside the cells, and even to mummify intruders too large to be removed (mice, insects...) to prevent their decomposition.
Its composition varies according to the regions and the tree species foraged by the bees: poplars, conifers, birches, chestnut trees... Each propolis is unique.
Nature has provided everything. We have put it in a bottle.
